Agency: Administration for Children's Services
The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) is tasked with protecting the City's children from abuse and neglect, and works to prevent such cases from happening. ACS partners with many other city and state agencies to provide educational, health, social and housing services. ACS manages some of the city's child foster care system, as well as its adoption system. The Department is responsible for investigating cases of child abuse, taking care of the abused child, and educating families about proper child care. In total, ACS works with approximately 90,000 children a year. John B. Mattingly is the commissioner of ACS; for more information, go to www.nyc.gov/acs.
